In recent years, we have seen those who call for trans rights and trans inclusion in society and public services, be they LGBT or feminist groups, become the bête-noire of the right.
Whether it’s by tabloids, or backbench MPs, those who advocate for trans inclusion are perpetually painted as prissy, over-sensitive and out-of-touch harpies getting hysterical about pronouns and gender neutral toilets.
Because they mostly are exactly that.
We’ve had all this with the gay rights movement – society accepting that some people are gay isn’t enough for the Professional Gayers, they must demand ever more and more concessions, while most gay people shrug and roll their eyes and tut as much as the rest of us…
Societal failure to discuss issues such as gender neutral toilets or pronouns at the micro-level is not detached from the dire situation unfolding in prisons around the UK.
Really? It’s a short step from ‘Sorry, you can’t use the ladies when you have a penis’ to the suicide risk to remand prisoners?
Transphobia exists at all levels in society: when we tut or scoff at “micro-aggressions”, we unwittingly lay the groundwork for much greater tragedies such as the recent deaths in jails.
Yup, roll your eyes at the demand that 6ft 5, hairy-chested ‘Mary’ be treated as a real woman despite biology, and you’re forcing trans people over a cliff-edge at flaming torch and pitchfork-point.
Say, what was the fragrant flower of fake femininity inside for, anyway?
Jenny Swift was remanded into HMP Doncaster in South Yorkshire in November after being charged initially with attempted murder.
Yes. Clearly, ‘she’ needed protection from us.
